yeah i agree with you and i totally understand why the animal rescue league is doing that, any reputable animal shelter would, and i totally applaud them for doing it. and i think i will talk to a landlord about it because a) it’s the right thing to do and b) it would suck to have to move out of an apartment because of it because you better believe i will break a lease before i would abandon a cat. i’d honestly move back home before i would abandon a kitten.
when we were with the realtors they said to definitely NOT tell potential land lords that i plan to have a cat because most likely they would want a pet deposit which would be like 500$ and i REALLY don’t have that kind of money.
and now i was just looking online at some kitties at the animal rescue league of boston and i saw that in order to get a cat there you have to give them your landlord’s name and phone number so they can check out to make sure that you are allowed to have a cat.
i just really don’t know what to do because i want to be up front and honest with potential landlords about my plans for cat parenthood, but i really can’t afford to put that kind of a deposit down. why can’t they use my safety deposit for that? i feel like i should just be upfront with them because i would hate for them to find out that i had a cat and didn’t tell them and then have them be upset with us or not let us renew our lease.
maybe i’ll just try to talk to them and let them know but work out something with using my safety deposit for that.
any thoughts or helpful experiences with this stuff?
well, my favorite is either yellow walls, or gray blue walls because then you can have all sorts of crazy colored stuff. i thought you were going to be at the apartment for good, or for at least a while. how long are you going to be there?
President Obama took a step toward equal rights on Thursday when he mandated that hospitals allow visitation to the partners of gay men and women, along with respecting patients’ choices about who can make critical health-care decisions for them.
The new rules will affect any hospital that receives Medicare or Medicaid funding and will become active within months.
"Discrimination touches every facet of the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people, including at times of crisis and illness, when we need our loved ones with us more than ever," said Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign.
And per usual, opponents of gay marriage are all up in arms about the whole thing! Their warped thinking truly believes that this decision is undermining the definition of marriage.
But Obama issued the following elegant memo to the Department of Health and Human Services.
"Every day, all across America, patients are denied the kindnesses and caring of a loved one at their sides whether in a sudden medical emergency or a prolonged hospital stay.
Affected are “gay and lesbian Americans who are often barred from the bedsides of the partners with whom they may have spent decades of their lives — unable to be there for the person they love, and unable to act as a legal surrogate if their partner is incapacitated.”
President Obama was inspired by the story of a lesbian couple in Florida, Janice Langbehn and Lisa Pond, who were not allowed to see each other when Pond collapsed of a cerebral aneurysm in February 2007 and died alone in the hospital hours later because of these outdated policies.
And the new mandate will not only apply to gays. Widows and widowers will now be able to receive visits from friends and companions.
full disclosure, this is from perez hilton and it’s dated april 16th.
“Eight percent of college men have either attempted or successfully raped. Thirty percent say they would rape if they could get away with it. When the wording was changed to “force a woman to have sex,” the number jumped to 58%. Worse still, 83.5% argue that “some women look like they are just asking to be raped.”—
i am supposed to be writing a really stupid paper right now. if you’ve ever seen that stupid thing on the internet about what the world would be if it were a 100 people village.
it’s completley ridiculous.
also-we had to write about THE SAME FUCKING THING IN THE BEGGINING OF THE SEMESTER.
no joke. he made us write about this, and then now we have to write about it and somehow pretend that he taught us something instead of just making us feel shamed for being white and being privileged enough to be in college.
i mean, i understand that i will never know what it’s like to be black and feel racism, but this guy has the balls to tell me that what i feel from sexism is nothing compared to what he has felt in his life as a result of racism.
AND whenever we say anything in class in support of minority populations, he tells us we’re race traitors. that would be like if i told a bunch of guys that they sucked because they happened to be born male and that it was their fault that they got to not be a girl and have to deal with the shit that comes along with being female instead of male. and then if the guy, even after i was a total ass to him, said “yeah you’re right, that isn’t fair” if i told him he was a gender traitor and that in supporting women, he was abandoning his sex and blah blah blah.
this guy is honestly fucking ridiculous.
and for the record, i don’t give a shit about the world as a 100 person village. it isn’t, and it was dumb enough to make me write 1 paper about a hypothetical 100 person village, but to make me write 2 is just insane.
The Oklahoma Legislature voted overwhelmingly Tuesday to override vetoes of two highly restrictive abortion measures, one making it a law that women undergo an ultrasound and listen to a detailed description of the fetus before having an abortion.
Though other states have passed similar measures forcing women to have ultrasounds, Oklahoma’s law goes further, requiring a doctor or technician to set up the monitor where the woman can see it and describe the heart, limbs and organs of the fetus. No exceptions are made for rape and incest victims.
The second measure passed into law Tuesday protects doctors from malpractice suits if they decide not to inform the parents of a unborn baby that the fetus has birth defects. The intent of the bill is to prevent parents from later suing doctors who withhold information to try to influence them against having an abortion.
This makes me so incredibly frustrated and just plain angered- so here’s some snazzy four letter words:
Fuck this. Straight up, fuck. this. Fuck Oklahoma. Fuck the brainwashed little Republican shits that passed this bill.
I think it’s time I start actively fighting against this; this takes Oklahoma’s pro-life restrictions on Roe v. Wade entirely too far.
I’m tired of sitting back and watching progressively more and more restrictive laws on the issue of abortion be passed in this damned bible-belt state.
